Four Finger Discount

so tonight...I'm in best buy, perusing the CDs, and minding my own business, when I notice this lady following me. But she's not really following me...it's like, when someone is following you, but they don't want you to know that they're following you. Like, every time you turn a corner, they're there, and they look like a deer caught in the headlights, and walk on by. Well, if you don't know what I mean, sucks for you. Anyway. Eventually, I got a little annoyed about it, so I asked her very politely if there was something that maybe I could help her with. She looked at me for a second, and apologized, telling me that I reminded her of her son. I was a bit confused, and she then told me that he had died two years ago. I was obviously a bit taken aback, and at a loss for words, I simply told her I was sorry. She nodded her recognition, and went on her way. So yeah, that kind of weirded me out, but about ten minutes later, IM looking at the DVD's, and she comes up to me again. She tells me with a look like her puppy was just killed that if I didn't mind, there was one favor she wanted to ask of me. I was feeling a mix of pity and annoyance for her, so to ease my soul I oblige. She asked me to check out right behind her, and that as she was walking out the door, to call out "bye mom!" I had what I was going to buy, and I didn't feel much like looking anymore, so I said ok, and followed her to the front of the store. She didn't pay me a lot of attention once we were in the line; I guessed she was either embarrassed about the situation or trying not to break into tears at the memory of her son...But as it goes, she took her bags, and walked toward the door. I called after her "bye, mom!" she looked back and smiled. I handed the clerk my CD, and waited while he rang me up. "that will be $138.78" he said. I looked at him like he was joking. "excuse me?" I said, "for that one CD?" he looked blankly at me and explained that my mother had told him that I would be taking care of the bill. My mother was at home watching Oprah on the couch. That lady had scammed me! I ran out into the parking lot, and saw her scampering to her car with her cart. I ran her down, and caught her just as she was getting into her car. I grabbed onto her leg and started pulling on it, just like I'm pulling yours now.

:]
